Cinema

I started writing because I love cinema.

Let me make one thing clear: by cinema, I mean TV series, cartoons, films and, by extension, video games.

Whatever the medium, format or structure, they all have a common objective: to tell a story.

My first big shock on the big screen was "La Guerre des Étoiles" (Star Wars).

Yes, they bothered to translate the names into French back then.

For me, it will always be D2R2 (pronounce DayDeu AirDeu) and Z-6PO (Zedsispay-o), Dark Vador and Chiktabba (for the under-20s: R2D2 and C-3PO, Darth Vader and Chewbacca)!

But the same period also saw the arrival of ‘Goldorak’, ‘Albator’, and all their clones (‘Captain Flam’, ‘Battle of the Planets’...). And let's not forget the marvellous ‘Ulysses 31’, which introduced me to Greek myths to such an extent that I started to learn the language myself (I was already a Latinist, so there was a bit of a breeding ground, let's face it...).

For me, that's the real mission of cinema (and writing): to discover, to marvel, and then to want to go further.
If by reading Three.1 you want to know more about what goes on behind the scenes in the 7th art, then I've achieved my goal.

If, by immersing yourself in Shadow Police, you decide to visit Paris in a different way, and change the way you look at the capital, you'll be doing me a huge favour.

Yes, I write my stories with a camera in mind. They are not scripts (a totally different exercise in terms of format), but the scenes are designed to be read as much as seen. Novels allow you to ‘tell to show’, whereas in film you have to ‘show, don't tell'.

Cinema has forged this curiosity, this need to prolong the experience: the images and the stories, the music and the lines are all signposts: the dream is out there, just come and discover it!

After that, the genres are limitless: crime, espionage, fantasy, science fiction, drama, politics and history are all fascinating.

Why limit yourself to just one?

However, while I'm a fan of ‘blockbuster’ films, ‘auteur’ films are not among my favourites.

I'm afraid that means that few French productions find grace in my eyes.

I'm bored by pathos if it's not breathtaking, and everyday life is of no interest because we're already living it.
Not enough imagination... I'm only passionate about the extraordinary and the impossible!

So hats off all the more to ‘Baron Noir’, ‘10 pour Cent’ and, more recently, ‘Rivières Pourpres’, ‘Lupin’ and ‘Cœurs Noirs’, which have done the country proud.

But what a low score compared to ‘Sherlock’, ‘Stranger Things’, ‘The Crown’, ‘The West Wing’ and so many others!

Honestly, for one ‘Rois Maudits’, how many ‘Tudors’, ‘The Hollow Crown’, ‘The White Queen’, ‘The Wolf Hall’?

And when it comes to superheroes, well... there just aren't any! (It would be fun to see the suit, by the way...)

So there you have it, a (small) insight into the tastes of a geek-binge-watcher author who, once she's started on the subject, finds it hard to stop...
